Counselling Cell
The Counselling Department of Shillong Commerce College started on 1st of August 2017 with the aim to develop in the students a will to win, an urge to learn and a desire to grow towards reaching their full potential enabling them to lead a fulfilling, fruitful and responsible life and be effective contributing members of the society.
MISSION:
To provide professional Counselling Service in a confidential setting for the psychological, emotional and social wellbeing of students as they pursue academic goals and explore personal growth.
OBJECTIVES:
The Counselling goal is to provide students with holistic development which includes the emotional and mental wellbeing. These can be achieved through the following objectives, such as:
- To help students identify and attain their educational and career goals.
- To promote personal growth and social development of students.
- To guide students in becoming active, responsible and self- disciplined citizen.
- To encourage and assist students in making personal and professional choices.
- To equip students with essential skills and life lessons through Value Education Classes.
SERVICE AND COUNSELLING SESSIONS:
The Counselling services offered to students of both morning and day sections.
The Counselling Room is large and well ventilated room with comfortable seating arrangement. Confidentiality is maintained. Counselling is usually offered by referral from the teaching staff as well as by appointment except in cases of emergency.
INDIVIDUAL CONSELLING:
It is offered to individual students relating to issues like behavioural issues, Anxiety, Depression, Relationships, Study habits, shyness, insecurity, self- confidence, self- image and self –esteem, exam fear, communication skills, interpersonal relationship, family, career and health.
GROUP COUNSELLING:
Group Counselling is conducted to students having common problems like peer pressure, Addiction and Time Management.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS
Students are encouraged to take these tests to be more aware of themselves, their skills and attributes. Psychological Assessments serve as an instrument for students to achieve self- improvement and personal growth.
PARENTAL COUNSELLING:
Parental counselling is a type of service that aims to provide the necessary knowledge, tools, guidance, and support to parents without making them feeling being judged. Confidentiality is well-maintained
Parental counselling can be attended by one or both parents.
REFERRAL SERVICES:
When some students opened up their problems related to health issues like gynaecological problem, medical condition issues, severe depression cases etc. The counsellor gives students a referral to a psychiatrist, gynaecologist or other professionals.
