Department of Commerce

Introduction

The Commerce Department of Shillong Commerce College was started in the year 1987.Initially it was started with 3 (three) lecturers in commerce assisted by other 4(four) lecturers with a strength of only 120 students for the session 1987-88.

The founder teachers included Mr. J.B. Massar (Dept of Commerce), Ms. S. Das (Dept of English), Mr. A. Dey (Dept of Commerce), Mr. D. Mukhim (Dept of Khasi), Mr. O. Kharkongor (Dept of Commerce) and Ms. S. Lyndem (Dept of Economics)

The Department was headed by Shri J.B.Massar from 1986 to 30th June 1995 since on 1st July 1995 he was appointed as the Vice Principal of the College. As a result Shri Apon Dey took over as the Head of the Department since then. In the year 2011 the department suffered a heavy loss due to the sudden demise of its two Senior Lecturers Shri Apon Dey on the 13th of December, 2011 and Shri Sparlington Dkhar on the 16th December, 2011.

The Department was then headed by Shri B. R. Upadhya from 1st January 2012 till date.
