Department of Education

Introduction

The Department of Education, Shillong Commerce College was established in 2019. The department is affiliated to North Eastern Hill University and offers B.A. Education spread over six (6) semesters. It covers papers and topics such as educational psychology, sociological and philosophical foundations of education, the education system in India and different policies related to education, the educational thoughts of Indian and Western philosophers, educational practices, educational statistics and evaluation, population education, women empowerment, environmental education, information communication and technology, teaching methods, and so on, which will enable them to acquire theoretical as well as practical educational thought and process and also develop their critical thinking. We are also organising group hands-on activities, debates, seminars and presentation. The objective of the department is to equip the students with knowledge, information, skills, and a positive attitude to efficiently lead society to a happier, more successful future. The department is also organising different programmes, such as educational trips, institutional visits, and talks on topics related to education.

Career prospects:

• Upon completion of the course, students will be eligible to apply for civil service jobs.
• Students can go for further studies (B.Ed./MA)
• Students are better equipped to continue their professional teaching courses (B.Ed./M.Ed.).
• Students are better equipped to do research by applying the basic statistics they have acquired in this course.
• Students can aspire to become educational counsellors. They can also specialise in the area of guidance and counselling when they go for further studies.
• Administrative work in the field of education.
